I want to get one thing out of the way first. Our Dossier has been delivered to our attorney in Haiti!!! The Great American Race finally came to an end. We started working on our Dossier September 1st. We were all but done with it by December 1st. We ran into a 6 week road block due to political unrest in Haiti. But, yesterday Shawna met with our attorney in Port au Prince and handed over the Dossier. Amen!!!
Yesterday was apparently just another typical, crazy day in Haiti. And it's interesting how it all got set into motion the night before!
The night before, Haiti President Rene Preval announced that even though his term is set to expire this week, he will remain in office until May when the new President is ready to take office. Well, Mr. Preval is not very well liked in Haiti, to say the least. The result yesterday was protesting, minor riots, schools and businesses closed. The mission team was kept at the mission house and not able to go out and serve the people at the Church and School of the Redeemer Savanne Pistache. As Shawna went this week as a part of a mission team to serve, we didn't really know when she would be able to deliver our Dossier. But, during the chaos and downtime yesterday, Ricot drove Shawna across Port au Prince to meet our attorney and deliver our Dossier.
The night before, Shawna and Redjina were having some quiet time. Redjina became interested in Shawna's gold wedding band. Shawna explained what it was, what it meant, and how important it was to her. Shawna took it off and let Redjina hold it, and eventually put it on Redjina's finger. A bit snug, but a pretty good fit! It was bed time, so Shawna told Redjina she could sleep with the ring on, then mommy would put it back on in the morning. Well, the next morning Redjina's finger was badly swollen, to the point it was painful. In a panic, everybody, tried everything, to get the ring off Redjina's finger. But, it was there to stay. Redjina was worried about mommy and her precious ring, while mommy was worried only about Redjina's finger. So, during the chaos and downtime yesterday, Redjina rode into Port au Prince with Ricot and Shawna. On the way to the attorney's office, they found a place to have the ring cut off Redjina's finger.
It was just another average day in the Cunningham’s life. Ride around Port au Prince, Haiti during a riot. Have your wedding band cut off your daughter's finger with a power saw. Hand-deliver your Dossier that was five months in the making.
All is well that ends well!!!
